Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

Last updated: May 7, 2026

txthis (operated by Northify, "we", "us", "our") is a service that lets a restaurant diner text a photo of a receipt to our number and split the bill with friends via SMS. By using txthis, you agree to this combined Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. The Service

txthis lets a bill initiator text a receipt photo to our toll-free number, set up the split on a web page, and have each diner receive a single transactional SMS with a link to pick what they ordered. Each diner pays the initiator directly via Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App — txthis is not a payment processor and does not handle, hold, or move payment funds. txthis charges the initiator a small flat fee per bill via Stripe Checkout.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your phone number for marketing. We do not sell or rent personal information.

4. SMS Messaging

By using txthis, you agree to receive transactional SMS messages from txthis (sent from a number we operate via Twilio). Message frequency is purpose-driven and limited per bill: typically one setup-link message to the initiator, one share-link message per diner, and one summary message per recipient after everyone has submitted. Message and data rates may apply.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for assistance, or email [email protected]. See the SMS Consent page for full opt-in details.

5. How Information Is Shared

6. Payments and Disputes

txthis is not a payment processor. All money flow happens directly between users via third-party services (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App). txthis is not liable for payment disputes, missed payments, fraud between users, or any consequences of those third-party services. The "I paid" tap on the diner page is an honor-system signal and does not represent verification of payment.

The per-bill fee charged to the bill initiator is a flat fee processed by Stripe. Refunds for the per-bill fee are handled at our discretion; contact [email protected].

7. Data Retention

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures: TLS for all web traffic, signed-validated webhooks for SMS and payments, scoped access tokens for service providers, and private object storage with revocable credentials. No system is perfectly secure; we work to address vulnerabilities promptly.

9. Your Choices and Rights

10. Children

txthis is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

11. Acceptable Use

Don't use txthis to send anything other than legitimate bill-splitting traffic to people who have given consent. No marketing, spam, harassment, illegal content, or content prohibited by carrier guidelines (CTIA / US carriers / A2P 10DLC). We may suspend accounts that violate this.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

txthis is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We are not responsible for the accuracy of OCR results, missed deliveries by carriers, third-party payment failures, or financial disputes between users. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

13. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the service after a change indicates acceptance.
